About MediaWright
Who we are.
A web consultancy built on forty years of software engineering practice, a fixed set of values, and the belief that the highest-quality work and the lowest commercial price aren't in tension if the engineering is disciplined enough.
What we value.
Five values, and what each one means in practice, not just on a wall.
Creative
We look for the better answer, not just the first one that works. Often the better answer is less software, not more.
Cooperative
We work with clients, not at them. Nothing that matters ships on one person's say-so: every change is checked by someone who didn't make it, including yours.
Honest
We say what's true, including when it's unwelcome. We never claim more than we can back up — in marketing copy, in a quote, or in a status update.
Determined
We finish what we start, and finish it properly. When something breaks, we fix the cause, not the symptom, and add the check that would have caught it.
Respectful
We respect people's time, privacy, dignity and property. That means accessible by default, your data handled as carefully as our own, and never using anything we don't have permission to use.
Why we take on free work
Giving back is why we grow, not something extra.
Paid work for businesses is what keeps MediaWright going. Churches, charities and community groups that benefit their community get the same engineering, the same tests and the same security, at cost price or free of charge, at our discretion. The more we grow commercially, the more of this we can do — that's the point of growing, not a side effect of it.
On price. We aim to provide the highest possible quality at the lowest possible commercial price.
For not-for-profit and community organisations, we provide systems and services at cost price or free of charge, at our discretion. More on how we price →
Work we won't take on.
We decline anything that profits from harming people or society, whatever it would pay. That includes payday lending and other high-cost credit, gambling, pornography and sexual exploitation, arms and weapons, and tobacco and vaping — and more we'd rather turn away than list in full. If we're ever unsure, we ask before we accept the work, not after.
How that shows up in the work.
Values decide what we'll build and who for. These decide how we build it.
Forty years of discipline
Mr Wright's Rules, condensed from four decades of professional practice, written down before AI tools existed. How we work
Security first, always
If security conflicts with speed, cost or convenience, security wins. It's the one non-functional requirement we never trade away.
Tested, not promised
Every change runs the full test suite before it ships — accessibility, security and content — not just once at launch.
Self-healing systems
Our systems notice their own faults, prove them with a failing test, and propose a checked fix that a person approves. More about SiteAdmin
AI, used responsibly
Claude Code does most of the typing. People write the spec, review every change, and stand behind every line that ships, whoever typed it.
What we mean by quality
The right spec, sound architecture, disciplined practice, and testing that proves it. What we mean by quality →
